The Wither Film (2017)

Possibly banking on the huge success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and popularity of the video game series, An American film producer, The Sean Daniel Company, recently announced plans to bring The Witcher to the big screen. They will be teaming up with Polish film company Platige Films. The Sean Daniel Company are the same producers that brought the three Mummy films starring Brendan Fraser and The Scorpion King

While there have been no announcements of plans to have any tie in with the Witcher series of games, or CD Projket RED, Platige has a history with The Witcher already, with their production of the Witcher 3 opening cinematic trailer “The Trail”. Platige has experience with other video game franchise as well having produce some cinematics for the recently released Halo 5: Guardians Xbox One game.

This won’t be the first time that The Witcher Geralt has seen the big screen. The Hexer, released in 2001, is a Polish film that is based on The Witcher series of novels and was followed up with a 13 episode television series. Geralt of Rivia was the main character and both the film and television series were met with mixed to poor reviews.

The yet to be titled Witcher film is said to start Geralt Rivia as the main character and will be loosely based on Andrzej Sapkowski short stories The Witcher and Lesser Evil. It was also announced that this film will be the first in a series of films based in The Witcher universe. Tomasz Baginski has been announced as the film’s director but no actors have, as of yet, been cast or announced. The film is slotted for a 2017 release.
