Prey (2017) is a sci-fi first person shooter game that will be released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PCs on May 5, 2017. Developed by Arkane Studios, the same company behind the popular Dishonored and Dishonored 2 games, the game will feature first person shooter action along with a number of role-playing game elements. Prey (2017) is a re-imagining of the 2006 release of Prey and is not considered a sequel.
The backgrond for the story in Prey begins back in the 1960s with an alternative timeline where President John F Kennedy was never assassinated. His drive into space has drawn the attention of a number of alien races. These aliens collectively know as the Typhon are defeated in a joint U.S. / U.S.S.R. operation and they create an enormous space station orbiting the moon. This space station, named the Talos I, serves as a prison for the Typhon aliens.
The game opens in the year 2032 with players taking on the role of Morgan Yu. The Talos I space station has been transformed into a research facility that conducts experiments on the aliens to uncover their power and transform their abilities for humans. Except now, something has gone wrong. As Morgan Yu, players wake to find the Talos I overrun by the aliens and it is up to them to uncover the mystery behind the infestation and defeat the Typhon.
In the game players will be able to customize Morgan Yu choosing gender and a number of other character attributes. In order to succeed players must use the items and equipment found on board the space station as well as special powers they have gained through the experimentation done on Talos I in order to defeat the Typhon aliens.
Game play in Prey consists of traveling throughout the space station as well as the surrounding area outside of the space station. The outdoor/space areas will feature zero gravity. In addition to the single player storyline, Prey also features competitive multiplayer game modes.
